How to pack light

(tips for women)

  1. Pack dark bottoms

Packing dark bottoms in 2 to 3 colours help you pair them with different shades of tops. The major benefit of dark bottoms is that even if it gets a bit dirty, it doesn’t show. You can easily repeat the bottoms for 3 to 4 days (or more). Dark jeans and jeggings can be repeated for almost a week. However, it would entirely depend on the climatic condition (humidity, dust etc.) of the destination you are traveling to.

  1. Pick clothes made of lightweight fabric

Picking clothes made of lightweight material is a must do if you want to travel light. Go for tops made of georgette, rayon, chiffon, sateen or silk (for special dinners). These fabrics come in beautiful colours and prints and are easy to pack into a small carry on.

  1. Roll your clothes instead of folding

This may have raised an eyebrow for some. But rolling is a better option than folding when it comes to travel packing. Rolling keeps the basic fold intact without crumpling the apparel. Rolling also accommodates more clothes and stuff in one suitcase.

  1. Notice what grooming product you can’t do without

…and pack only that. I know it is difficult to leave behind the Channel No 5 at home. But you can. Instead, pack up those sample perfumes the shopkeeper gave you in small bottles. Nobody knows you in your exotic destination and you do not have to wear your signature perfume there. Regard this as an opportunity to use all those samples and gifted perfumes that you haven’t got a chance to use in your regular life. Same goes for other beauty products. While traveling the only thing that you must take care of is to keep your skin hydrated and moisturised. You do not need to pack hand cream, foot cream, nail cream and night cream separately. One good quality moisturiser will address all your concerns for the duration of your travel.

  1. Pack layers

Weather is the most fickle thing in today’s world. Thanks to global warming! Therefore, it is important that you stay prepared for all kinds of weather regardless of seasons. A few must pack clothing items are: a warm spaghetti top for layering; cotton shirt/top for when it is hot and humid; a thick trouser, 4 pairs of socks, a pair of sneakers, a pair of floaters or flip-flop, a warm scarf/stole, a warm (preferably of fleece) jacket and a sun hat.

  1. Pick a suitcase that’s cabin size and light weight

While selecting a suitcase or travel bag, always notice the weight of the bag when it is empty. The wise decision is to pick the one that is the lightest. Such a suitcase may cost you a little more than the regular. But in the long run it’s worth it. It is always a good idea to carry smaller luggage than a big one. That way, if required, you can just carry it as a cabin baggage instead of checking it in. Do not forget to remove liquids containing more than 100 ml.

Safe travels girls!
